“This is a beautiful log cabin. It was so much fun spending time playing games next to the fireplace. The home has everything we expected and even more beautiful in person. Being in a home made out of real wood logs was definitely a nice change of scenery. It is surrounded by beautiful pines and close by we saw wild turkeys and white tailed deer. Our stay was peaceful and fun. The ping pong table in the lower floor was a nice surprise! Tip: I brought instant coffee because I wasn’t sure if there was a coffee maker. (There was ! So don’t forget your coffee grinds) . The water wasn’t bad, think about it as a nice mineral bath. The smell takes some getting used to but it didn’t bother me or my friends. There’s a Walmart close by in case you forget anything . Overall this was awesome and we want to come back again next year. ” “Leah , your home was wonderful. It was beautiful, unique, and cozy. Thank you for making it available for our stay. We had a lot of fun. ”

Clean, comfortable, very well-equipped cabin is perfect for family vacation
Date of Stay – Jul 30, 2016
We spent our family (11 adults, 2 babies) vacation at Buckhorn Lake Cabin. We found it to be very clean, comfortable and very well-equipped for our family. The kitchen was especially well-equipped and enabled us to make and eat all of our meals together. The area is lovely. We especially enjoyed swimming at Wazee Lake. Leah was very easy to work with. We did not miss tv or electronics and spent a lot of time talking, playing games and making memories together. Loved it!

Beatiful cabin in a peaceful scenic setting

We rented the cabin for 3 nights with another couple and had a fantastic time. There was a lot of room in the cabin and when family came over to visit for 2 out of the 3 evenings there was plenty of room for everyone to sit and visit and play games. The cabin had all the amenities we needed although we did go buy some cheap wine glasses as there were only two (now there are 6). We really loved it and would definitely return!

My Response

We are so happy you had a fantastic time. Thank you for adding more wine glasses. There should be more on higher shelves and you may need a step stool (next to the refrigerator) to see them. I will tell the housekeeper to bring them down so guests know they are there in case a group needs more than eight.

Relaxing, beautiful, cherished time
Date of Stay – Jul 15, 2016
This is a beautiful cabin in a very quiet location. At first having 7 kids I was concerned there would not be enough to do, but Leah put my mind at ease. She was always quick to answer questions. We had more than enough room and having no tv or Internet was a big bonus. We read, played games, did day trips everyday, and enjoyed many many ping pong games in the basement. Firepit was lovely, target outside our boys shot at with their bb/air soft guns, bikes, basketball, and so much more. Kitchen had all I needed. We did not use the water access across the street, but it really is not necessary there are so many lakes and bodies of water to play on. We went hiking, tubing down the black river, to Lake Wazee, then rented jet ski on another lake, spent a day at the awesome community center in Black River Falls, and went to and indoor outdoor waterpark with an awesome skating park that the boys could scooter on, and lastly enjoyed horseback riding . Nothing was more than a half hour away. You can’t beat the beauty, price, location, serenity, and peacefulness of this home . Oh and we may have had a few nerf wars so forgive me if you find darts 10 years from now. (Our kids ranged from 7-14).

This cabin is a wonderful retreat and includes so much to do without even leaving the property. Its location is good for anyone looking for outdoor activities as well. Our family of 6 gathered around the table and fire instead of a TV which was fantastic and a needed break! Everything is thought out and welcoming. We’ll be back!

Family getaway weekend
Date of Stay – Nov 12, 2015
Warm & welcoming, spacious and fun filled. Our family of 11, ages 9 months-60, had a wonderful time enjoying the cabin. The keyboard was my grandson’s favorite. He also enjoyed sleeping up in the loft! The fireplace was cozy and the furniture comfortable. The cabin is filled with books and games and other fun stuff. My granddaughter enjoyed the Lincoln Logs! Although we did not explore the area, I know how beautiful it is because I live little over an hour from here. My kayak club comes up to the area to kayak Hall’s Creek and the Black River. Spectacular beauty and great kayaking! There is ample parking and everything is well lit. We would definitely come again for a family get together! Leah was extremely accommodating and very prompt with any questions I had. I also felt the price was very reasonable. We plugged the address in our gps and it took us right to the driveway… No problems!

My Response

Thank you for your lovely review. It makes me smile how our cabin has become a center for families of all generations get together and create life long memories. Leah

Leah was an excellent host who communicated well and made sure we had everything we needed to prepare for our stay. The cabin was a good fit for our group, with easy access to Lake Arbutus (just a short drive away) for summer lake fun.June 2016

A perfect place for we two couples. We each had a log cabin bedroom suite! Lots of flexibility and plenty of room to move about. Black River Falls and Jackson County have great birding. Lakes, rivers, marshes, hills, and trees. It was a fabulous getaway for us. Come back to the cabin to relax, watch the fire, and reconnect. Leah is a wonderful host!

Great location for a variety of wildlife and human habitats. Cabin is awesome and the location was quiet. Great beds and great sleeping! Everything worked and Leah was extremely helpful in preparing us for our stay and ensuring that everything met our needs and expectations.

Leah’s place was wonderful! She was very attentive and made sure that we knew everything about the cabin before we arrived. Once we did, we found everything we needed. A nice, relaxing weekend. Some people have noted that the water has a sulphur smell, but honestly we didn’t notice it much and weren’t bothered by it at all. The place is so beautiful and relaxing (and easy to get to!), we’d love to come back again.

Kristin met us right after we arrived at the cabin to make sure we had all we needed. Everything was neat and attractive. New baby gates were supplied to guard the stairs from little ones. The kitchen was nice-sized and well-equipped. We kept 9 people happily fed through Christmas, just as if we’d been at home, but better. The dining room is big and pleasant, with windows to the trees and, for our visit, the snow. The basement with ping pong table was a real bonus. With the cold and snow, the fireplace was just delightful, with plenty of wood supplied to keep it going. Bedrooms were comfy, and with the loft space, there was always another place to hang out.

What a beautiful home away from home. We were a group of 8 and the cabin & location were a dream. The house comes fully equipped with all the amenities you need. Leah was great, she answered all my questions and provided great times. This will definitely be a yearly event with the family

What Maria loved about your listing:
Wow is all I can say. This was our first rental and I just can’t say enough good things. I would love to make this a yearly trip if you’d have us. Thank you

What Maria thought you could improve about the experience:

Leah was a great host, very communicative and had good recommendations for the area. Our group came to cabin to x-country ski and relax and we got plenty of both. I would high recommend to anyone coming to the BRF area.

Response from Leah:
I am glad there was snow to cross country ski on. It’s nice to be able to ski right from the cabin or go to the cross country scki cente, with groomed trails, ten minutes away. I don’t downhill ski, but I heard bruch Mound 15 minutes away is a an affordable down to earth place to ski and they have a tuBing run too. Hope you can come back and enjoy a new season at Buckhorn Lake Cabin, Leah

My family and I visited the cabin for two nights. It fit all eight of us more than comfortably and it never felt crowded. The kids really enjoyed the ping-pong and foosball tables. The adults enjoyed the peacefulness and tranquility of the location. The cabin was warm, cozy, and clean upon our arrival. It is clear that the host takes great pride in this property, which made us want to take good care of it as well. We were gifted with a lot of deer sightings out of the back windows, which was fun for everyone. The binder with information about surrounding restaurants and things to do was super helpful. We took a side trip to Norske Nook in Osseo, WI and came back to the cabin with full bellies and lots of pie! Yum! Overall, an amazing and much-needed family weekend that we won’t soon forget. Thank you so much for sharing your space with us!

Response from Leah:
It was our pleasure. Jackson County is the deer capital of WI. I’m glad you got some visitors. Every season is amazing up there. I hope you can visit again. Leah

Relaxed Getaway

Review Submitted: September 7, 2011; Date of Stay: August, 2011

Our extended family travelled from Winnipeg, MB and Toronto, ON to the half-way point – Buckhorn Lake cabin. We enjoyed ourselves immensely in this little piece of paradise. The cabin had plenty of room for 6 adults and 2 children, and was well-equipped for us to cook, dine, play and relax with one another. We took daily walks and saw numerous deer and butterflies galore. Without TV or internet, we reconnected with each other and the outside world, spending much time at nearby Lake Arbutus and Wazee Lake. Highly recommended for a very relaxing getaway!

Great Family Getaway

KS family United States

Review Submitted: June 14, 2011; Date of Stay: May, 2011

Our family had a wonderful time vacationing at this cabin for a week. The accommodations were perfect for our three-generation family of seven. We loved the ample community space to spend quality time dining, playing, and visiting together during the day/evening, and the three floors of bedrooms gave us plenty of space to spread out overnight. We had a great time preparing and eating almost all of our meals right in the cabin’s kitchen, which saved us on pricey restaurant bills! Our two little guys (ages 3 ½ and 16 months) loved the roomy jacuzzi tub! The cabin is very well-located – close to the water for canoeing, yet not too far from town for a quick drive to the grocery store as needed.

Owner’s Response: The cabin has a stroller, portable hight chair/booster seat, two gates, a little bike with training wheels and little life preservers for the canoe and kayak. we have grandchildren from 1/1/2 to 16 and it is nice to have these extras to save them room in their car. They have five children!

Milwaukee gals

Red Twin Cities, MN

Review Submitted: April 6, 2011; Date of Stay: April, 2011

Just spent a weekend with some gals from Milwaukee. 1/2 way from the Twin cities. WE LOVED IT. I also happen to be the first “return customer”. I stayed last fall with friends from the Twin Cities. It was, again, soooooo peaceful, healing, fun & just what we needed. Made some fires, listened to music, played games, walked the area. There was even the first thunderstorm of the year while we were there. We all LOVED the environmental methods of building the cabin. Loved reading teh book on the cabin. We HIGHLY encourage others to come & indulge in how fantastic this cabin is. Thanks for having us. We’ll be back 🙂

Owner’s Response: You were one of our first guests last autumn when we began renting the cabin, and you are our first return guest. It is our pleasure to make our cabin a tradition for family and friends get-to-gethers such as yours. We look forward to your next visit. Perhaps you will be our first guest who experienced the cabin in all four beautful seasons!

Take care, Leah

Reunion With Friends

Stick Crystal Lake

Review Submitted: March 18, 2011; Date of Stay: March, 2011

Five of us rented the cabin for three days/two nights. We came from all different areas in the Midwest – Illinois, Wisconsin, Iowa, and Minnesota – so the location was perfect for minimizing everyone’s drive.

Everything was as advertised in the listing. The property is clean and well maintained. The kitchen was fully stocked with everything that we needed for preparing meals. The woodburning stove was easy to get started and keep lit; Tim and Leah provided plenty of firewood for our stay.

All of the beds, including the futon, were very comfortable.

We are already planning to return for another get together in the fall.

Owner’s Response: You were lovely guests and it was a pleasure meeting you all. The cabin is becoming a haven for women retreats. You inspired me. I hope to organize a weekend workshop to teach women how to write a Legacy Letter to their children or grandchildren. Legacy Letters, sometimes called ethical wills, are highly focused letters from the heart that share a person’s values, life lessons and the influences that shaped both.

Hope to see you in the fall.

Review Submitted: March 13, 2011; Date of Stay: January, 2011

This vacation was one of the most relaxing our family has had in years. It was great just enjoying each other’s company, playing games, taking walks, and just hanging out. The cabin is absolutely perfect. The kids (ages 11) had a great time playing ping pong, the keyboard, and shoveling off a skating rink on the lake. Next time we’re bringing our skates! The parents loved sitting by the fire and reading their long awaited books. Thanks for everything!

Our Big Chill Weekend-February, 2011

Big Chillers Minneapolis, MN

Review Submitted: February 24, 2011; Date of Stay: February 2011

This was a wonderful, spacious retreat into the pine tree woods of Wisconsin. It is easy to get to from Black River Falls and a lovely drive. The log house is a beautiful space. There is plenty of sleeping space and bathrooms (once you work out a two-door signal of sorts). The radiant heat in the floors is fantastic. Most of us noticed our feet were never cold. And the heating system pretty much kept it toasty the whole time. We used the fireplace at first but later didn’t need to much. The space allowed us to have a puzzle going, play games and sit around chatting and reconnecting. It snowed most of the time we were there but that just made it all more beautiful. People went for walks, some snow-shoed around. It was a wonderful weekend.

Owner’s Response: We’re so happy you had a wonderful, toasty time. Those 10 inch logs can really keep in the heat. It’s amazing.

This cabin is beautiful and very comfortable. That’s a good thing, because the weather was horrible the entire weekend, so we stayed by the fire and ate and played games. Leah was great. We would definitely come back (then we can find out what the area is like!)

Well, we had the honor of renting this cabin last weekend. Chick weekend. It was WONDERFUL. So, clean, quiet, warm & now full of even more memories. We loved the walks around the area, fires at night, the wonderful big whirpool tub, all the cozy beds & more. We loved the history of the cabin with the environmental methods that it was built with. We had fun with a short outing to “the mug” in Hatfield. The only thing we didn’t get to is the canoe & kayak. I don’t know….I’d encourage anyone to come. Great price, wonderful home & very kind owners!!!! THANK YOU so much for having us.

We just spent a girls weekend at this cabin this past weekend. This is our third annual weekend getaway – and what a great find in a cabin. It was such a relaxing and enjoyable weekend filled with great laughs, good food and wonderful memories. The owners have done a tremendous job building this cabin and it is in a great quiet location. We even escaped the wonderful warmth of the fireplace for a couple of walks around the area and a little trip to a cute bar in the local town. Overall it was a great experience and would highly recommend it to anyone. THANK YOU!

Owner’s Response: Thank-you Gary. We are happy you had a great weekend at the cabin. We couldn’t have found a better location to build. Come again! Leah

I just wanted to send you a message.  We had a GREAT time!  Your cabin is absolutely beautiful and we had so much fun.  Thank you so much for allowing us the opportunity to share in such a beautiful place.  It rained for most of yesterday – but we just enjoyed spending the day by the fire and eating very yummy food.  Your bread was so yummy for  an early breakfast treat on Saturday morning.  I even took advantage of the jacuzzi tub.  I hope that you or your housekeeper found the cabin in good condition.  We tried to clean up everything – with the exception of a deep clean of the bathrooms.

Just wanted to send a quick thank you…Take care and will definitely keep your place in mind for future get-aways.  Good luck as you get into the cabin rental business.
